is flat really better?

So we went and did a cycling event today in wine country - no, not the typical wine country - but in Stockton. Yes, there are wineries there. As you can imagine, it's also really really flat in the central valley so we were like - this 100K will be a breeze. Ok, so it was actually a bit harder than I thought it would be - when there are no hills, it means there aren't any downhills to coast down on. So yah - 60 miles of just pedaling was a bit tiring. We stopped at all the wineries in the beginning so it also took so much longer than I thought it would. But all in all, a nice event.
