So the weekend started out with me biking over to J/J's party from work and trying not to die on central expressway on the way. It seemed much scarier than I remember or maybe I hadn't been in rush hour as much before. I was greeted with much awe when I arrived in my sweaty state at J's place. Perhaps they didn't realize that I wasn't going to shower (oops). But it was a good way to advertise bike commuting as a fun thing to do though no one said they thought they would start doing it too. boo. EntJ seemed to like my presents so perhaps we will be spa-ing in the future. whee.
Sat, we dragged our asses out of bed to make it up to san mateo by 7:20am to do the giro de peninsula. It benefited something but I cannot remember what. All I knew is that we would get a t-shirt in the end. So there were two many courses we were considering: 100 miles or 100K. The 100K went from san mateo to los altos and back. The century went from san mateo to the coast to los altos and back. I definitely didn't want to do the century but C wasn't too keen on the official 100K route so we decided to do a modified century where we did the ride out to the coast and back but then just went back to san mateo. So we set off at 8am and the first major climb was up highway 84 to skyline. This was easier than the typical old la honda climb but usually not recommended because of the car traffic. We were blessed to have so few cars this time though and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Then down the long long descent to the coast. I was worried the rest stop in San gregorio would close by the time we got there (11am) but they saw us and we were able to get all the cookies and rice krispie treats we needed. Now the long climb back up to skyline had me thinking I was going to have a heart attack. I think other people thought so too - i had folks going by who said things like "you can do it!" I was a nike commerical.
Sun, we went up to stern grove for some jazz. It was an outing organized by SeattleC and she cleverly set the evite start time to be 1pm which made me think the concert was at 1pm so I showed up at 12:30. Well, at least this meant I got good parking but the concert didn't start until 2. In the meantime, we sunbathed in the hot hot sun. Yes, there is sun in SF! I didn't believe it until then. C was wilting and I tried to be a human tree and give him shade but we really needed an umbrella to be effective. This weekend was also all about food so we hit San Tung for dinner with U/W in the inner sunset afterwards promptly at 5:30pm (the line formed 15 minutes later). Mmm. dumplings. Then we collapsed from exhaustion when we got back home.
