april in a nutshell

Holy crap. I really haven't blogged in a while. Sometimes I'll have a moment in the day where I'll think about blogging but then I'll forget the topic by night.

I can barely remember what happened in April. Let me check my calendar and update you folks. Huh. Looks like I worked a lot and paddled on the weekends. So same old. same old. I did go to an adventure club outing (kayak and whale watching) which met at the ungodly hour of 7:30 in santa cruz! That was ... kind of painful to say the least. Anyhow, my carpool buddy and I discussed the whole financial aspect of these adventure clubs. Basically they make money by adding a surcharge onto an activity and just take care of booking it for you. For example, this kayak trip was run by a santa cruz kayak company which I looked up online later and they normally charge $70 for this trip. We paid $100 to the adventure club for the promise of meeting other like minded individuals to bond with. First thing I noticed when I arrived in Santa cruz was the sheer number of couples on the trip. Hmmm. Not that this was a singles trip per se but really, if I was in a couple, I could just save the $30 and just find my own kayak tour. Needless to say, the couples didn't interact much with the rest of the folks. With regards to the kayak trip itself, that was the most nausea inducing ocean kayaking that I have ever done. They had us just float for a while out there which was even worse. I was glad that the tour company cut the trip short due to weather conditions (and lack of whale sightings). Needless to say, everyone was glad to get home earlier which made me think, I don't think folks are that social when forced to wake up this early.

The other big thing I've been doing in april (it's a slow month), is that I started a Pilates reformer session at my gym. It's a machine that helps you do all the typical pilates exercises correctly. It costs an arm and a leg unfortunately but it sure does work the abs real well. The series only meets once a week though which makes me think that it won't be effective for me as it is for all those Hollywood stars who do it every day for hours.

The rain was fabulous to have in the bay area in April but let me tell you, it positively bites to be at pacbell park watching a baseball game in the rain. Thank god ebay gave us these humongous umbrellas last year so I was able to hide under it (and also block everyone's view behind me). The Giants were playing San Diego though and you could tell the Padres were confused by the downpour. Giants won handily.
