Been noticing more and more now that all the chains have the calorie counts prominently displayed next to the item when ordering. It actually does change how we order because it's just so shocking to see how fattening everything is. At starbucks, I really wanted a pastry but after staring at all the choices and seeing how everything was 400-600 calories, I only allowed myself to get one by sharing it with C. And even then, I think it took some of the enjoyment out of it knowing how bad it was. Going into erik's delicafe last week though, I was surprised to see that a full sandwich was 750 calories. Man, I guess their sandwiches are full of mayo and what not but that's what makes them tasty.
We went to 5 guys burgers in Sunnyvale for the first time yesterday and it was also 700 calories for a hamburger which I guess I expected but I guess I thought burgers were more like 500-600 (this was the base calorie count without any sauces or toppings). In any case, I ordered mine with lettuce, tomato, and onion (they had a ton more toppings that you could get though for free). I gotta say I wasn't that impressed but mostly because I love onions and they only put in a few chopped onions in there not like at In n Out. Also, we learned why the burger was 700 calories. They put in 2 hamburger patties which seemed really excessive to me. No wonder america is so fat.
