Another chinese-indian wedding this last weekend in LA. Otero steve got married in an indian ceremony at the embassy suites in Garden Grove. We (groom's side friends and family) were told to arrive early to help with the groom's procession. He was going to come in on horse (aka the ford mustang that was decorated quite nicely) and we would dance around. Everyone was dressed in such gorgeous saris (i want one!) and the bride side relatives showed us some moves. We were all a bit confused as you can imagine. We ended up dancing around in the parking lot to the side of the hotel and caused traffic. Since we were near disneyland, the disneyland shuttle came to the hotel and then had to stop because we were in the parking lot ignoring them. Then a tour bus came up on the other side and also had to stop. I was amused that no one seemed to care that we were causing traffic and everyone kept dancing. Finally we cleared the area and went inside for the ceremony. Some parts of the ceremony seemed a little familiar from U/W's wedding years ago but this clearly wasn't the condensed version.
I had heard vaguely before that Indians just chatter amongst themselves during wedding ceremonies. We were on the right side (groom's side) but the bride's side was happily chattering away throughout the whole thing. At one point, I looked over and some of the folks were eating ice cream! We had a few of the folks sneak out and get cookies for us too when we saw that.
Lots of people I hadn't seen in years from Otero - it was very nostalgic and plus they had open bar. What more can you ask for?
