So it struck me as very sad when one night when my sister and I went to dinner, she spent more time browsing her phone for news than actually talking to me. Since she wasn't talking to me, I started playing games on my phone as well. I wonder what the restaurant people thought.
I've spent a lot of time online browsing the web on this vacation and imagine my panic when yesterday night, the cable modem died. I felt silly doing it but there was a tech support number so I called (because the thought of spending the last 2 days here without internet was unbearable). The first lady was in a bad mood but once the problem got escalated, they sent this very helpful guy out here who fixed the issue in an hour. The joy this brought me was enormous. I think i am a little too connected...

Wow. I think that's a bit scary, not to mention, rude. There is a time and a place to surf your iPhone or Blackberry, but sitting down at a dinner table is not it.
How you spend your time together is up to you, but you don't really need to sit in a restaurant if you both just want personal downtime.
As for technology withdrawal, it's just another sign of the times. That reminds me; I should really spend some time working on my book backlog. You know, those funny things with words inked onto pressed wood pulp...
