Somehow the holidays just flew by though it does feel like I have been relaxing for a long time now. This year, I decided to go to tahoe for new year's. M, V, and I drove up in a pouring rainstorm but the moment we got into truckee, the rain disappeared and we had a nice drizzle of snow. Unfortunately we were not so lucky the next 2 days where it just rained and rained causing ski resorts to close due to high wind. Sigh. Two days of vegging and non stop eating results in a natural layer of warmth I suppose. It is winter. In any case, on new year's eve, the rain finally turned to snow in the afternoon and we rejoiced. M and I were a little stir crazy in the cabin so we took a walk the neighborhood to enjoy the snow. I found a house for sale - for around a million. eek. I guess it's too late to invest in the tahoe real estate market.
We were on a video marathon for the 2 days of vegging but we still had difficulty staying up till midnight on NYE. so sad. We're officially old.
At least on new year's day, we were able to hit the slopes at northstar bright and early. Unfortunately a few hours in, heavy snow hit and pelted us fiercely. Ow. My face was very unhappy. Good thing we were only doing a half day.
I've already learned my lesson for 2006. I've been doing a lot of pilates/yoga instead of cardio these days so to kick off the new year, I decided to go to a step aerobics class. 20 minutes in, I swear I felt like I was about to pass out. My heart rate was way too high and I was having difficulty breathing. All I could hope for was that i didn't fall off the step. I finally had to give in and lower my step (I was one of only 2 people in that class who had their step set that high) though I've done that level of difficulty before. Though I guess not in 2005.
I guess there truly is no substitute for cardio. Time to start training again.
