So we started our chicken coop construction this weekend. Or I should say C has started implementing his design. I spent my time gardening and planting some new vegetables. We went up to the city yesterday and when people found out I was going to get chickens, I got a lot of incredulous looks. What can I say, I'm a farmer at heart. If you have been reading this blog, then you know that I've gotten more interested in living in a more self sustaining manner and I'll be able to use chickens as my own composting mechanism. Plus of course I find baby chicks really cute and you know how much I love eggs.
It was kind of funny - at Lowe's this weekend, this guy asked us if we were building a chicken coop (we were standing in front of the wire section). And turns out he is too (and he also lives 3 blocks from me!). We joked about how all this money spent will never ever pay off. C was baffled as to why so many people in Los Altos have chickens and I told him it's because the animal rules are lax (apparently if you have a 10000 sq ft lot, you can also get 1 sheep or goat - heh).
I created a new chicken related blog that will talk about construction and chickens so that I don't bore the folks who really don't care. Haven't posted anything yet but I plan to document coop construction.

Chickens are cool. Keep the chickens on the blog! Have you thought about names yet?
Will probably just keep the chicken stuff on the other blog since it'll probably be mostly pictures. Getting the chicks this weekend!
