match.com

Ok, so I've had a profile up on match.com for a while but never actively used it since it actually made me feel a little too sketched out. After hearing about a friend's success with it, I thought maybe I should actually invest some time in it for real. J and I spent an evening browsing the profiles for fun. There are a lot of odd folks on it but I also did find a couple of people I know. A lot of decisions on who to contact were strictly based on the photo. Shallow but true. Even though I know that no one ever looks like their photo. Even the profiles that had several photos up had completely different looks for the same person.

It didn't dawn on me to put my college info on my profile because I thought it didn't matter but when I started realizing that I preferred the profiles where it had their college info explicitly listed, I realized I should do likewise. So I started listing those facts as well and made my profile have more details in general and I'm now getting more responses. Hmm, interesting. I always thought I just had a not very exciting picture and that's why I didn't get many hits but maybe I just needed to spend more time with my profile. I feel like this is a whole social experiment. It still makes me very nervous about meeting these people but I met my first person last night and I'm still alive. I did dread it greatly but it was ok - I was just suffering from a great deal of fatigue so I had to end it early.

People on match aren't that bad...I was on there! (or maybe I still am...I forgot...did you see me?) College is actually very important...some people actually search by the type of college you went to...which kind of makes sense.

Ah, so this is why you're never free for lunch.
