Back in LA this weekend for Father's day weekend. The moment I step into my parents' house I feel all energy leave my body and all I want to do is sit around and eat, read, and sleep. It's a good life. To break this pattern, I did drag myself over to the local LA fitness gym for an aerobics class - I have never seen so many chinese ladies in a class before. It was like 80% chinese. And they were all really good too. So surprising. Sat night, my mom mentioned that we should watch the movie "Saving Face" because there was an ad for it in the Chinese newspaper encouraging more chinese people to watch it. My sister and I stared at her in shock when she said this and asked her if she knew what it was about. Apparently she did not but we both wanted to see it so we took advantage of her ignorance. (The movie is about a chinese lesbian daughter coming out to her mother). Very appropriate huh. I really enjoyed the movie though I was really really hoping they wouldn't show too many sex scenes between the lesbian couple and ended up squirming uncomfortably in parts because I was afraid my mom would be really really offended. I've watched the wedding banquet with my parents before and they were very uncomfortable during some of the love scenes as well.
In any case, go out and watch this movie - it was funny and enjoyable. The filmmaker is a former Stanford CS major who used to work at microsoft. That just tells me that we all can change careers at any point in our life...
