In LA this weekend checking out the parents' new house and just realized that I just can't get into the housing style here. They live in the valley but all the houses have the same general spanish tile and palm tree look. It is slightly disconcerting and just totally different from the tree laden area that I live now. Granted, I did live in LA for many years so I really shouldn't be surprised but it's always a shock to the system to deal with. Where are the trees and diversity in houses? Oh yah, this house here has more bathrooms than bedrooms.
For once, I didn't get setup this weekend but when we were headed out to this massive 11 person lunch (relatives and other random people), my dad mentioned that they were trying to matchmake 2 of the random people in the group. The guy(J) is his coworker and the girl(H) is the daughter of a friend of a friend. Anyhow, I thought the girl was totally pretty and the guy ... not so much. At lunch, the seating went my dad on my left, the girl on my right, and the guy to her right. She and I actually talked quite a bit but my dad would randomly interject conversation about J like how he just got promoted and how hardworking J was. From what I could tell, J and H barely talked to each other besides him trying to do the polite thing of serving chinese food onto her plate. (By the way, looks like she doesn't eat carbs). I actually got the girl's business card and contact info (for business reasons I swear) so I left that lunch thinking that it wasn't going well between the two of them at all. But mostly thinking it was because of the guy.
Turns out my parents had a different impression and from talking to the guy afterwards, they told me the J wasn't interested in the girl at all. what the... and apparently she is totally into him. I asked my parents how they knew she was into him and they said they could just tell. huh. I must have been at a totally different lunch then or maybe they just think girls are just desperate to get married.
